1. Atlanta Motordrome
Candler's dream was to create an oval rivaling the one in Indianapolis, and the resulting dirt track was nearly a carbon copy, on a slightly smaller scale. The two straightaways ran in a north-south direction, just like IMS. However, the Motordrome turns were more rounded and had a higher degree of banking than Indy, which made it the fastest superspeedway in the country at that time. |

2. Atlanta Motordrome Track Info
A two mile clay oval built by Asa G. Candler, the inventor of Coca-Cola, in 1909. The aim was to rival Indianapolis, and the first event was an immense success. However, by 1910 the gate receipts were too poor to support the track, and the final race was held on the 6th October of that year.
The track was unused for 19 years, with the infield being used as an airstrip. In 1927 the land was purchased by Atlanta for its municipal airport, which was known as Candler Field, later becoming Hartsfield International Airport. The final piece of banking was bulldozed in 1970. |

14. Putnam Park
In 1990, Richard L. Diasio saw a need for a road course in Indiana that was devoted to club racers. He designed Putnam Park Road Course to be safe, fast, and challenging. Also, he wanted to build a circuit that could be viewed in its entirety from the pits, so that both participants and crew could be a part of the action at all times. Putnam Park was constructed in 1991 on 202 rolling acres just west of Indianapolis. |
