23. Yamaha V-Max - Living life to the Max
|
Reed used a highly tuned version of the well proven Venture V4 liquid cooled engine and wrapped a huge frame around it, bedecked with “Mad Max” styling. Unlike many concept bikes the V-Max stayed pretty faithful to the original artist drawings with its long chopper style chassis and sweeping futuristic bodywork. Yamaha had considered a turbo boost at one point, but with power already well above 140bhp, the option was not pursued and the V-Boost was fully developed instead. |

Memorable Motorcycles: Yamaha V-Max - MotorcycleUSA.com
Everything about the V-Max was, and is, original. Every element of the bike, from the first sketches through to the finished product, is 100% Japanese, even if it was conceived and drawn in America.
The first seeds of the V-Max project were sown when Yamaha's Project Leader, Mr. Araki, saw American teenagers drag racing over a quarter-mile bridge span over the Mississippi River. |

2004 Yamaha V-Max - MotorcycleUSA.com
In 2005 the V-Max celebrates its 20th birthday as the king of asphalt-shredding speed and power. What's remarkable is that it has gone largely unchanged for the last 19 years. Sure, there are bikes that have managed to hold a special place in the two-wheeled market place for long stretches of time, but as fast as technology advances, those bikes quickly get slapped with a retro label, and instead of being the toast of the town, they're admired for the antiquated style and performance and their impact at the time of their introduction. 27. Yamaha Vmax by Hermes
|
With its four-cylinder engine and brushed metalwork, Yamaha didn't have to do much to the VMax to make us want it any more than we already do. But then they went ahead and created this beauty.
The result of a collaboration between Yamaha and Hermès, this one-of-a-kind VMax has been decked out in the finest buffalo skin, covering everything from head lamp to tail pipe. Unveiled at a motorcycle exposition in Germany, it's not the first time the two powerhouses have collaborated, Hermès having similarly decked out a Virago cruiser back some fifteen years ago. But it sure is the most awesome...
