5. History of the 1st Generation V-Max
Pre 1984: The mighty V4 was an adaptation of the long running Venture Royale engine. To read more about the development, click here to read a Yamaha Design Cafe article I can no longer find on the YDC site. 1984: The V max was created and introduced to the public in October. At the time, the V-Max sported the world's largest production-bike rear tire. It was a V-rated 150/90-15 with a V-pattern tread. The 1985 model was the only year the "V max" was pressed into the side covers.

14. Vmax at RedBook.com.au
This is a ride like no other, and the perfect place to take on the role of a fighter pilot. And it's one thirsty animal too, but that's soon forgotten about once the fun kicks in In a world of ever-increasing conformist social behaviour, Yamaha’s VMAX stands out like tits on a bull. It’s big, it’s brash but most of all it’s silly. Very silly.

17. Vmax History Article
Debut in Las Vegas in 1984 Mr. Araki is General Manager of Yamaha motorcycle operations in Japan. In 1984 he was project leader of V-max. Mr. Araki remembers: "V-max had its first debut at the US dealer meeting at Las Vegas in October 1984. The bike was targeted for the 1985 season, to be sold in US first. Its key word was as simple as effective: American Hotrod. Its sensational appearance was very different from other typical American models at that time. So the bike became the highlight of the dealer show."
