the FJR a much more pleasing treatment of the tank, which is a cross
between retro teardrop styling over the top and straight diagonal
sections along the bottom.
... For example, the point formed by the leading-edge of the fairing's
belly-pan seems to be the centre of an arc described by the alloy

The oddest thing about Yamaha's FJR1300 is that the company didn't produce it sooner. As a factory with an eye on most, if not all, market niches, the lack of some sort of serious touring bike in its range in the last decade was a puzzling omission, but the sector's massive growth across Europe since 1997 (almost 80 per cent) has finally compelled Yamaha to field an entry.
